| What is a Colon Hydrotherapy
Session Like?
Sessions at Nature’s Rhythm take
place in a calming spa-like setting and are facilitated by
an I-ACT Certified Colon Hydrotherapist. Clients are gowned
and draped at all times. FDA-approved equipment and disposable
single-use speculums and hoses are utilized.
Extreme care is taken to ensure that the comfort and dignity
of each client is maintained at all times.
Please review the list of contraindications prior to scheduling
an appointment as well as the Before and Aftercare Instructions.
Is there anything added to the water?
No. Water which has been filtered three times
is all we use. No additives.
Is it painful?
Whatever a client feels when they normally
use the bathroom is typically what they will experience during
a colonic session. Generally, painful experiences are due
to resistance and tension. Our certified colon hydrotherapists
instruct clients in helpful breathing techniques to promote
relaxation and elimination during a session. Sometimes during
a colonic session, colon muscles will contract suddenly preceding
a large release. This could cause the client to experience
some cramping. The breathing techniques will help in this
release process.
Will it smell?
All waste and toxins that exit the body do
so through enclosed tubing which is connected to the main
sewer line. It is a completely closed system, so there is
no smell.
Will I make a mess?
No, most people don’t make a mess.
During a colonic session, there is never a reason to bear
down or push. The goal is to relax and allow your body to
naturally release on its own. In a relaxed, calm state, the
speculum is able to remain stable and facilitate a leak free
release. It is very rare that a mess is made during a session.
How long will it take?
New clients should schedule approximately 1hr 15 minutes for
the entire process. When clients come in, an intake form is
completed. After which, the instrumentation and procedure
is explained in detail. The practitioner then addresses any
questions or concerns. Once the client is completely comfortable,
the colonic begins and takes approximately 40 minutes to complete.
Can I eat before a session?
It is recommended that clients do not eat two hours prior
to a session. Appointments should be scheduled around medically
supervised eating regimens. Please review the Before and Aftercare
Instructions prior to your session
Can I go to work after a session?
Yes. Clients do not have to restrict their schedule in any
way.
Do I need to be close to the toilet all day?
No. Colonics will not affect you like laxatives.
How will I feel after a session?
Most clients have a burst of energy and feel
lighter with a sense of improved vitality. Some feel tired
and really want to take a nap. Either way, it is best to continue
to drink water to help flush your system. For some, it takes
a couple of days to resume their regular schedule of bowel
movements.
How many colonics will
I need?
Please keep your wellness goal(s) in mind prior to your session
and discuss them with your practitioner before your session
so that an informed suggestion can be offered.
Will a colonic wash away the good and bad bacteria?
Yes. Many clients use a probiotic, which is an over the counter
(OTC) dietary supplement to replenish the good bacteria potentially
lost during a colonic session. Probiotics can be found in
health food stores such as YES Organic Market, My Organic
Market (MOM), and many other food co-ops and stores.
Can I have a colonic if I have my period?
Yes, if a tampon is used. The body is already
in a natural release process. In fact, some women find that
colonics ease many of the discomforts associated with their
cycle.
Why not use enemas, suppositories, or laxatives?
Enemas and suppositories are useful for irrigating
the lowest areas of the colon (the rectum and possibly the
sigmoid area). Laxatives are great for occasional relief of
constipation. Colonics have the ability to irrigate the entire
colon (generally not in only one session) and assist in removing
older and impacted fecal matter and toxins throughout the
entire colon.
What type of system is
used?
A closed system is used at Nature’s Rhythm.
What is the difference
between an open and closed system?
In a closed system, the eliminated water and waste matter
are carried through tubing that is connected directly into
the plumbing system. There is no odor and there is no mess.
With an open system, the client will eliminate into a basin
that leads to a toilet. In this system, the waste is exposed
to the air, there may be an odor and splashing is possible.
With an open system, the client is typically
in the room alone at long intervals during the session and
controls the flow of the water.
The closed system, however, depends
on gentle pressure, controlled by the therapist, to introduce
the water and evacuate the waste. The therapist may also apply
gentle massage which will facilitate the elimination and overall
cleansing for the client.
